Abstract: This Level 2 (swath) data set?s land surface parameters, surface soil moisture, land surface (skin) temperature, and vegetation water content, are derived from polarimetric microwave radiometer data from WindSat, onboard the Naval Research Laboratory's Coriolis satellite, using the Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM). Quality The LPRM/WindSat data are sensitive to both internal model limitations and external processes and are screened for radio frequency interference, the presence of snow/frozen soils, water, and dense vegetation covers. All screened out data pixels are flagged and indicated by a non-data value. A soil moisture uncertainty parameter at both C and X bands is included (Parinussa et al., 2011).
