Summary
Abstract: The aim of the project was to derive a number of control points that could be used to georeference two Radarsat scenes over Heard Island. Control points were derived from aerial photography covering various locations around the island, namely: Cape Gazert, Atlas Cove, Brown Lagoon, Manning Lagoon and Winston Lagoon.
ERDAS Imagine with OrthoBase Pro photogrammatric software was used to ortho-rectify the aerial photography and extract values for the derived control points. ERDAS Imagine OrthoRadar was used to georeference the Radarsat images.
The measurements taken from the aerial photography have been described in an earlier report.

Quality Using the OrthoRadar software By ERDAS it was possible to orient the two Radarsat scenes using the derived control points. The results of the orientations can be seen in the attached table in appendix 2.
The rectified Radarsat images fit to existing data derived from SPOT. The maximum discrepancy between the data sets appears to be approximately 190m and generally between 60 - 100m. There also seems to be a good correlation with the contours derived from the existing Radarsat imagery.

All coordinates were projected to UTM Zone 43 on WGS84 datum.
