Abstract: This data set contains statewide coverage of wetlands data in
Rhode Island. The wetland units were classified into 1 of 16
types which reflect the groups of the US Fish and Wildlife
Service. The RIGIS wetlands data set is the most up-to-date
inventory of wetlands available for Rhode Island.
Collection Organization: The black and white photographs were
taken by Aerographics of Bohemia, NY under ... contract with the
state of Rhode Island. The land use and land cover data were
delineated, recompiled, and automated by IEP, Inc. of
Northborough, MA under contract with the Environmental Data
Center (EDC) at the University of Rhode Island.
Collection Methodology: The wetland/upland boundary was
delineated on the photography for wetlands at least on quarter
(1/4) acre in size. Collateral material for these delineations
included color infrared, 1:58,000 photography from 1985, the
USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service soil survey maps of
Rhode Island, and the United States Fish and Wildlife (USF&W)
National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) Maps. The wetlands units were
classified into 1 of 16 types.
