Summary
Abstract: This study is an evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of
contaminated groundwater from the ASARCO metals refining facility adjacent to
the Missouri River in Omaha, Nebraska. Surface waters, sediments, and sediment
pore waters were collected from the Burt-Izard drain, which transects the
facility, and from the Missouri River adjacent to the facility. Groundwater
was also collected ... View entire text

Quality Sediment was taken from one site within the Burt-Izard Drain (which is an open
ditch or creek crossing the ASARCO property at its northern end) and one at its
confluence with the river. Two sites were sampled just downstream of the ASARCO
property. In addition, two reference sediment samples were taken, one upstream
of the ASARCO facility, and one on the opposite bank. Originally, additional
sites along the waterfront of the facility had also been selected for sediment
sampling. High water conditions prior to the sampling date had scoured nearly
all of the sediment from this outside-bend of the river.
