Summary
In order to evaluate long-term variations in composition, abundance,
biomass and life history of fish, crab and shrimp species in the
North Inlet salt marsh, two collections with a 6 mm mesh bag seine
were made every 2 weeks at low tide in a subtidal creek pool in
the Oyster Landing basin of the marsh. The water temperature and
salinity in the subtidal pool were also measured. After the captured
fauna were identified to species, number (abundance), length and
weight (biomass) measurements were made. Length measurements have
provided estimates of growth during the period of occupancy each
year. Abundance data demonstrate patterns of seasonal migration
and recruitment as well as responses of resident species to major
changes in salinity and temperature.

The North Inlet site is a former site in the LTER Program.
Data were collected from 1980 until 1992.

These databases are the result of long-term monitoring begun in the
late 1970s and early 1980s in the North Inlet Estuary, Georgetown
County, South Carolina. The National Science Foundation funded the
Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program in the North Inlet
Estuary from 1981 to June, 1993.
