Diets of northern spotted owls and barred owls in western Oregon, 2007 &2009.Entry ID: USGS_FRESC_OwlDiets
Abstract: ABSTRACT: Owl diet data are contained in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that provides the collection identification number, site (i.e., name of owl territory) where data were collected, date of collection, type of prey species identified in the collection, and attributes of each prey species (e.g., mean mass, activity type, primary life zone). The data set includes 1 row per prey item with columns for the collection number, site name, collection date, collection season, prey species, mean mass of prey, prey type, prey activity zone, initials of the technician that keyed the prey item, and comments.
Purpose: PURPOSE: This dataset was developed to examine dietary composition, dietary breadth, and dietary overlap of sympatric northern spotted owls and barred owls in the central Oregon Coast Ranges study area during 2007â2009.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: There are two FRESC Study IDs associated with this data set: 547 and 608

Quality ATTRIBUTE ACCURACY REPORT: No tests for attribute accuracy were conducted. Most prey items were matched to known specimens in the lab.
LOGICAL CONSISTENCY REPORT: Data were subject to a formal error-checking process to insure that all data were correctly entered and prepared for analysis. Checked outlier values for accuracy
COMPLETENESS REPORT: This data set does not contain records from sites where <20 prey items were collected during the study (sites with <20 prey items were not included in analyses).
Access Constraints ACCESS CONSTRAINTS: Data are available after research results have been published in a scientific journal.
