X-Radiographs Data
Entry ID:
USGS_SOFIA_x-radio_data
Summary
Abstract:
The x-radiographs of Florida Bay cores were used to examine the internal sediment structure of sediment contained in a core and assess whether the sediment was mixed.
In order to manage an ecosystem, it is imperative to define the rate at which ecologic, physical and chemical changes have occurred. The lack of historical records documenting ecological changes dictates that other methods are used to measure the rate of change. A common method of "dating" change is to measure the decay of naturally occurring radioactive nuclides.

X-radiographs were made of cores from Rabbit Key, Cluett Key Pond, Whipray Basin, Bob Allen Key, Rankin Bight, Lake Ingraham, north and south Russell Bank, Johnson Key, Porjoe Key, Pass Key, Crocodile Point, Trout Creek Spiit, and Little Madeira Bay to assess sediment disturbance over the length of the cores. The x-radiographs were made in a hospital using their x-ray equipment.
