MSS is scanning the Earth`s surface from an near polar, sun synchronous orbit with an inclination of 98.2 deg. The time for one revolution is 103 min (LS 1-3) or 99 min (LS 4-5) at a speed of 7.5km/sec. Starting at longitude 64.9 W MSS scans the Earth by 233 overlapping pathes of each 185 km width.
