Abstract: General information about Landsat-MSS:
MSS is scanning the Earth`s surface from an near polar, sun synchronous orbit
with an inclination of 98.2 deg. The time for one revolution is 103 min (LS
1-3) or 99 min (LS 4-5) at a speed of 7.5km/sec. Starting at longitude 64.9
MSS scans the Earth by 233 overlapping pathes of each 185 km width. In order
to have a ... reference system these pathes will be cut into each 248 segments,
denoted as rows numbered from north to south.The resulting scenes (images),
recorded in 25.714 sec, hence are of size 183 km (W-E) * 172.8 km (N-S).
Neighbouring pathes show an overlap along-track of 6 km and a latitude-
dependent overlap across-track of 7.3 % at the equator.
The Visible and Near Infrared detectors are positioned in the primary
focal plane of the optical system :
band 1 (band 4) 0.50 - 0.60 microns VIS blue-green
band 2 (band 5) 0.60 - 0.70 microns VIS green-red
band 3 (band 6) 0.70 - 0.80 microns NIR
band 4 (band 7) 0.80 - 1.10 microns NIR

Description of the LANDSAT-MSS data set:
In total there are presently 873 images available. More than half of them are
coverring Germany; the others are spread all over the the world.
All images are system-corrected.
The dataset-size is 2280 lines * 3300 columns; about 32 MByte in total.
Every dataset consists of 4 spectral bands ( 2 visible and 2 near infrared).
The pixel size is 56 m x 79 m.
Via ISIS it is possible to order Landsat-MSS images; distribution on magnetic
tape or Exabyte. There are no online-data available.

On-line access to data and information is provided by the Intelligent Satellite
Data Information System ISIS, developed by DLR as a client / server
configuration. It is representing the interface of DLR-DFD to users, providing
an easy access to catalogue-, inventory-, browse- and general textual
