ACE CRC and Australian Antarctic Division Climate Data Set - Mean monthly surface air pressureEntry ID: climate_pressure
Abstract: This dataset consists of tabulations of mean monthly surface air pressure for most occupied stations in Antarctic and the Southern Ocean. Some South Pacific Island stations are also included, along with a few continent based stations. The data have been collected from various climate sources world wide, and spans varying years ranging between 1901 and 2002.

Quality Data are fairly complete for each station, beginning at varying times depending on when the station and collection began. Some stations are missing data (on occasions this is the result of station closure), in particular South Pole 1990 to 1993; Novolazarevskaya 1994 to 1995; Syowa 1962 to 1965; Mizuho 1976 to 1978; Molodezhnaya 1987 to 1991; Davis 1964 to 1969; Mirny 1985 to 1991; Vostok 1970 ... to 1991; Dumont D'Urville 1958 to 1960, 1972 to 1991; Leningradskaya 1971 to 1973, 1984 to 1990; McMurdo 1957 to 1959, 1971 to 1993; Scott Base 1985 to 1991; Russkaya 1985 to 1990; Byrd 1961 to 1976; Siple 1977 to 1986; Adelaide Island 1950 to 1955, 1960 to 1962; Rothera 1950 to 1955, 1960 to 1962, 1976; Palmer 1979 to 1981, 1987 to 1993; Almirante Brown 1960 to 1973; Matienzo 1972 to 1974, 1976 to 1979; Great Wall 1991; Bernado O'Higgins 1972 to 1976; Esperanza 1968 to 1969, 1979 to 1980; Petral 1970 to 1971; General Belgrano 1958, 1962, 1979 to 1981; Base General Belgrano II 1970 to 1981; Halley 1959, 1961; Georg von Neumayer 1987 to 1991; Marion Island 1992 to 1994; Crozet 1966 to 1974, 1977 to 1978, 1989 to 1991; Kerguelen 1989 to 1991; New Amsterdam 1989 to 1991; Cape Naturaliste 1953 to 1956; Cape Leeuwin 1953 to 1956; Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse 1953 to 1956; Maquarie Island 1992; Campbell Island 1991; Rauol Island 1989 to 1991; Tahiti 1906 to 1908, 1911 to 1915, 1931 to 1932, 1934; Pitcairn Island 1946 to 1953, 1959; Punta Arenas 1963 to 1967; Stanley 1938 to 1940, 1982; Cape Pembroke 1921 to 1940; Orcadas 1975; Grytviken 1931 to 1940; Gough 1992 to 1994.
The data set is updated as data are provided by stations, and climatologists. Please note that the data this dataset contains is not direct from the original source, it has been collated from various sources, including publications, monthly newsletters from national climate agencies and personal communications with climatologists world wide. Data were collated by the Antarctic CRC and the Australian Antarctic Division, Hobart, Australia. If for any year one monthly pressure datum is missing, the mean for that year is calculated using, for the missing month, the long term mean for that month. An asterisk marks any annual mean calculated in this manner. If more than one month of data in a year is missing, no annual mean value is calculated. Data have been collated by the Antarctic CRC and Australian Antarctic Division. Pressures are rounded to the nearest hPa for the mean monthly values, and to the nearest 0.1 hPa for the annual means (across all months for each year) and monthly means (across each month for all years).
Note that this dataset represents a compilation of data, and (especially in reference to Australian data), the Bureau of Meteorology should be checked for more accurate data.
