Land Use Changes, 1970'sEntry ID: USDA0016
Abstract: The "Land Use Changes, 1970's" database contains paired sample
data on land use change for the decade of the 1970's for 135
fast growing counties and selected cities in the United States.
Counties are listed by FIPS code. The data cover areas that
have experienced rapid population growth, large losses of
cropland accompanied by moderate population growth and areas
that have gained substantial ... cropland accompanied by population
growth. The land use change data originates from
photointerpretation of a very large number of paired sample
points, corresponding to two dates of photography between the
early 1970's and early 1980's. Soils mapping units from the
Soil Conservation Service (SCS) of the USDA [now called the
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)] are included for
areas where land use has changed from or to cropland and pasture.
Collection Organization: ERS Survey.
Collection Methodology: Photointerpretation of over 21,000
sample points paired to two dates of photography for the early
1970s and the early 1980s.
Collection Frequency: 1970s only.
Update Characteristics: The dataset is no longer updated.
The data reside in 24 d-BASE III (.DBF) spreadsheets.
