Summary
Abstract: Quality checked measurements of seagrass species distribution in Chandeleur
Sound, LA. Natural disturbance associated with storms and hurricanes is
recognized as a strong influence on the structure of subtropical and tropical
seagrass communities. Little information exists, however, from which to
predict seagrass community responses to physical disturbances. The need for
such predictive ... View entire text

Purpose: The objectives were to relate patterns of seagrass community structure to
dominant environmental variables and to test the effects of physical
disturbance on seagrass distribution and abundance.

Quality Quality checked measurements of seagrass species distribution. Data consist
of observations at 5 meter intervals along 16 shore-normal, 1-3 km long
transects.
Access Constraints None
Use Constraints The data were collected along transects stratified by disturbance
regime (zones of frequent island overwash vs. zones protected by
emergent marsh. All transects geographically referenced with LORAN
coordinates.
