Various Crop Residue Decomposition in a Growth Chamber, USDA-ARS
Entry ID:
USDA.ARS.CPCRC.CropResidue
Summary
Abstract:
These data are from P.B. Ford, M.S. thesis work at the University of
GA. The data are the results of a controlled conditions study where the residues of wheat, oats, barley, alfalfa, and sorghum were placed in mesh bags and buried in soil held in aluminium pans. The study was conducted in a growth chamber at 35 degrees C. Soil moisture was maintained near 75% by weighing on alternate days. There were four repetitions. Ten grams of each residue was placed in the bags at the begining of the study, and the amount remaining was measured five times in the 112 day long study. The percent carbon, Nitrogen, and lignin of each residue was measured: Wheat 43.82%C 0.45%N 10.65% lignin oats 42.84%C 0.23%N 10.23% Lignin barley 44.91%C 0.32%N 10.02%Lignin (alfalfa and sorghum N/A) Geographic Coverage
