Summary
Abstract: Annual and cumulative mass balance data of 30 'reference' glaciers with more than 30 years of continuous and ongoing obseration series. Mass balance values for 2010 are still preliminary. Global glaciers continue to loose mass at fast rate. Data shows cumulative ice thickness loss (in millimeter water equivalent) of available measurement series from 1980-2009. The 30 reference glaciers with continuous measurement since 1980 shows trends of fast ice loss at a rate of more than half a meter water equivalent since the turn of the century. The global average of available mass balance results is an excellent index of glacier changes. The absolute values might, however, not be representative for the total volume change of all glaciers and ice caps around the globe."
