El Nino Regions 3 and 3.4 SST Indices from NCAR
Entry ID:
NCAR_SST_ENSO
Summary
Abstract:
These data constitute Nino Region 3 and Nino Region 3.4 SST anomalies
(indices) in degrees Celsius which are discussed and appear as figures in Trenberth (1997). The Nino 3 Region is bounded by 90W-150W and 5S- 5N. The Nino 3.4 Region is bounded by 120W-170W and 5S- 5N. Monthly means were computed for each time series for the period 1950-1979. These means were then subtracted from their respective time series for the entire data set (1950-1998). Finally, a five-month running mean was applied to each time series. The data is at http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/cas/catalog/climind/Nino_3_3.4_indices.html The raw SST data is from the NOAA Climate Prediction Center at: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/data/
