The GEOSAT altimeter data were originally provided by NOAA (National
Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) as so-called Geophysical Data Records (GDRs) on magnetic tapes. GDRs are low-level products which are voluminous (30-40 tapes typically covering a mission globally). To be able to use these data in WWA several programs under Unix have been developed to compress and quality control the data. Ancillary Keywords
