Behavior of Radioactive and Stable Elements in the Environment

Summary
Abstract: Concentrations of some radionuclides(e.g.I-131, I-129, Cs-137) and trace
elements(e.g.I, Br, Cs, Sr, U) have been measured in rain water, soil, plants,
and fungi. It was found that radionuclides such as I-129 and Cs-137 were
retained mostly in the surface soil layer(0-5 cm). High accumulation of Cs-137
was observed in fungi. Trace elements in rain water collected in Ibaraki and
several other places in Japan were detected.
