The Poker Flat Mesophere, Stratosphere, Troposphere (MST) Radar Wind Velocity Data from the NOAA Aeronomy LaboratoryEntry ID: OAR0148
Abstract: >From 1979 through 1985, the Aeronomy Laboratory of NOAA operated the
Poker Flat Mesosphere, Stratosphere, Troposphere (MST) Radar on the
Poker Flat Rocket Range near Fairbanks, Alaska. The MST Radar,
operating at a frequency of 50 MHz, profiled the three vector
components of wind velocity with a 2 kilometer vertical resolution and
a 2 to 120 kilometer vertical range.
Scientists from the ... Aeronomy Laboratory, working in collaboration with
the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) have extensively
documented and quality controlled the raw data. NCAR currently
archives the clean data set on its CEDAR (Coulping, Energetics, and
Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions) database. The NOAA Technical
Memorandum listed in the references describes the data acquisition
techniques, the quality control procedures, and the data archival
formats used in preparing the data set, and contains an extensive
reference list and histograms graphically presenting the data.
