Abstract:
Geological investigations were conducted in the Cape Hallett/Cape Christie area to examine rocks and structures of the Robertson Bay Group and to make comparisons with New Zealand rocks, South East Australia rocks and the Byrd Group rocks. Investigations were conducted in the area of Cape Christie, Helm Point, Quartermain Point, Mowbray Piedmont Glacier, Adare Saddle and Cape Klovstad. Lithologies were sampled, sectioned and described. The tectonic structures and sedimentary structures and the general geology of the Robertson Bay Group in these areas was described. Biological observations were recorded along the way including sightings of Snow Petrels, Wilson's Storm Petrels, Skuas, Adelie Penguin, moss and lichens.
