Trace element distribution and speciation in Lake Vanda, Wright Valley, Antarctica
Entry ID:
K093_1987_1988_NZ_1
Summary
Abstract:
In Nov/Dec 1987, waters were sampled from Lake Vanda, Don Juan Pond, and the Onyx River (Wright Valley) to provide information on major ion and trace element chemistry and behaviour under the range of conditions existing within the chemically and thermally stratified lake waters and saline ponds. Water samples were analysed for trace metals (Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Co and Ni) and major and trace ions (Na, K, Mg, Ca, Li, Cl, Br, F, I, HCO3 & SO4). Temperature, pH, Eh and sulphide concentrations were also measured for all samples. Depth profiles for Lake Vanda were taken.
