Moon tracking spectrometer measurements of ozone and nitrogen dioxide from Arrival Heights during the polar winter
Entry ID:
K085_1985_1987_NZ_1
Summary
Abstract:
A moon tracking spectrometer was installed at Arrival Heights in January 1985 to measure trace gas species (ozone O3 and nitrogen dioxide NO2) in the stratosphere. The spectrometer measurements are made in the UV, visible and infrared regions of the spectrum. The stratospheric gases (O3 and NO2) are quantified by their absorption signature, using the moon as a light source. The interplay between dynamics and chemistry have been identified and the photochemical behaviour of oxides of nitrogen as a function of season were quantified. The instrument was serviced and replaced at various intervals.
