Soundings were made through the ice, and are taken from the piezometric height of the water surface in the drill hole to the lake bottom. Measurements were rounded to the closest 0.1m. In places the presence of a muddy bottom (&false bottom&) also adds error of possibly 0.1 to 0.3m. We measured to what appeared to be a consistently hard bottom i.e., the point when the measuring tape went slack.
