Abstract:
Emissions from fossil fuels are the primary source of anthropogenic carbon dioxide. The production of energy is, in turn, the primary source of fossil fuel emissions. Hence the statistics needed to estimate world energy consumption are a critical source of data in global change research. The two most widely used sources of energy statistics are the produced by the United Nations (UN) and the International Energy Agency (IEA). The energy statistics data is available as annual updates through IEA's online data service ("http://data.iea.org") or on CD-ROM. ENERGY STATISTICS OF OECD COUNTRIES Contains detailed annual supply and consumption data for OECD countries in physical units (tons, joules, and GWh). The data covers the principal coal and other solids fuel categories as well as manufactured gases, crude oil, NGLs, refinery feedstocks and the principal oil products. Supply data covers production, trade, bunkers and stocks while end use data covers categories such as electricity generation, refineries, iron and steel, chemicals, road and air transport, residential, commercial and public services, and agriculture. The series begins in 1960. The publication is available on CD-ROM for the period 1960-1999. ENERGY STATISTICS FOR NON-OECD COUNTRIES Complements the above. Presents energy statistics in the same format as for OECD countries statistics in physical units for non-OECD countries and regions. Key oil production and consumption series are presented in barrels/day as well as in tons. The series is available on CD-ROM from 1971-1999. ENERGY BALANCES OF OECD COUNTRIES Supply and demand balances for the main energy sources expressed in a common unit (thousand tons of oil equivalent). The energy balances are derived from the supply consumption data in physical units in the ENERGY STATISTICS OF OECD COUNTRIES above. The series is available on CD-ROM for the period 1960-1999. ENERGY BALANCES OF NON-OECD COUNTRIES Complements the above. Presents supply and demand balances as for OECD countries in common units (thousand tons of oil equivalent) for non-OECD countries and regions. The energy balances are derived from the supply consumption data in the ENERGY STATISTICS OF NON-OECD COUNTRIES above. The series is available on CD-ROM from 1971-1999 |
