Terrain-Induced Turbulence over Lantau Island

Summary
Abstract:
The Clark-Hall model was used to visualize tropical storm Russ which swept over
Lantau Island, site of the Hong Kong Airport.Lantau Island is the site of the Hong Kong Airport, Chek Lap Kok, which opened in 1998. A team of researchers from the Lantex field experiment were on-site in 1994 to study the terrain-induced turbulence effects on the new airport site. While they were there, tropical storm Russ came through, and the data they collected was used to produce the following visualizations.
