Last of the Wild Project, Version 2, 2005 (LWP-2): Last of the Wild Dataset (IGHP)
Entry ID:
CIESIN_SEDAC_LWP2_LW_IGHP
Summary
Abstract:
The Last of the Wild Dataset of the Last of the Wild Project, Version 2, 2005 (LWP-2) is derived from the LWP-2 Human Footprint Dataset. The gridded data are classified according to their raster value (wild = 0-10; not wild >10). The ten largest polygons of more than 5 square kilometers within each biome by realm are selected and identified. The dataset is produced by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
The global shapefiles (SHP) in the Interrupted Goode Homolosine Projection (IGHP) are available from the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC). Purpose: To provide an updated map of wild areas in Interrupted Goode Homosoline Projection which can be used for wildlife conservation planning, natural resource management, and research on human-environment interactions.

The 1:10000 Rookery Islands data were mapped from the following aerial photography;
- ANTC 1032, run 1A (frames 29 - 45), run 0 (frames 46 - 62), run 1 (frames 58 - 74), All mapping work was captured using a Zeiss P2 analytical stereo plotter and Microstation version 5 on a Universal Transverse Mercator grid. The horizontal mapping accuracy was +/- 8 metres. The vertical mapping accuracy was +/- 5 metres. Aero Triangulation adjustment was performed using Bingo. The polygon data were edited, cleaned and polygonised using Arc/Info. Maximum fuzzy tolerance for cleaning was 0.01 metres.
