Abstract: This database provides data on annual quaking aspen volume
growth at two-foot intervals up the stem for three trees per
plot at fourteen locations coupled with plot location climate
data and plot soil sample analysis data. Used for analysis of
quaking aspen growth dynamics.
Collection Organization: USDA/FS - North Central Forest
Collection Methodology: Field plots were ... purposefully selected
to get a large range of soil and climate properties. Soil
sampling was done at four locations for each plot by depth
classes of 0-25 cm, 26-50 cm, 51-75 cm, and 76-100 cm. Trees
were chosen as dominant and/or codominants on the plot. Four
trees were felled and sectioned at two-foot intervals up the
stem to 4" top diameter. Tree discs were dried and scanned to
determine ring counts and widths at each two-foot interval.
Climate at the plot location for the entire life span of the
trees was spatially interpolated from meteorological stations.

Quality Fifteen percent of the tree disks were rescanned to check
program and operator errors. Few were found.
