Abstract: "Etiology of Soilborne Diseases of Fruit Trees and Their Control
Without the Use of Methyl Bromide" contains research data that
investigates the etiology of replant diseases of apple and
cherry. Information on the causal agent(s) of these diseases
will be used to develop biologically-based integrated management
systems for disease control. The purpose of this research is to
aid in developing ... alternatives to pre-plant application of
methyl bromide for control of soilborne diseases of fruit trees.

Collection Methodology: The etiology of replant diseases of
fruit trees will be characterized by evaluating the effect of
selective elimination of specific soil microbial communities on
the growth of apple or cherry in replant soils. Changes in soil
microbial populations associated with enhanced tree growth will
be documented. Biological agents with activity against pathogens
associated with the disease complex will be developed.
