... Collection Methodology: To stimulate application of Dryacide to
concrete bin floor, concrete blocks of 15.5" x 7.8" x 1.5"
dimensions will be used. Dryacide will be tested on blocks at
three rates (0, 0.5, and 1.0 lb p1,000 sq. ft.) against four
stored-product beetles. Mortality assessments will be made at 24
h. For the field test, nine empty bins will be treated with
Dryacide at 1 lb per 1,000 ft. Out of nine bins, the grain
(corn) in three will not receive any treatment (control), three
will receive Dryacide at 28 lb per 1,000 bushels, and the other
three will receive Dryacide at 56 lb per 1,000 bushels. Only the
top 2 ft. of the grain mass will be treated with Dryacide as
insects infest grain from the top. The grain surface in Dryacide
treatments will be top dressed with 4 lb. of formulation per
1,000 sq. ft. Insects will be sampled at monthly intervals with
perforated probe traps and grain-probig devices. Grain samples,
brought back to the laboratory, will be tested against several
stored-grain insect species. The field test will show if
Dryacide is effective in suppressing insects in farm-stored
