U.S. Station Extreme Snowfall Return Period Statistics (DSI-9641L)
Entry ID:
gov.noaa.ncdc.C00397
Summary
Abstract:
US Station Extreme Snowfall Return Period Statistics is digital data set DSI-9641L, archived at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). This data set was the result of a project to prepare snowfall extremes and return period statistics for official weather stations across the contiguous United States and Alaska. A subset of the data was provided to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as an aid for making disaster declarations for record or near-record snowstorms. The major parameters are observed extreme snowfall values for the time units 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, and 1 year (August through July); and the extreme snowfall values for each of those time units that correspond to return periods of 10 years, 25 years, 50 years, and 100 years.
Purpose: To make a wide range of climatic data available to researchers and the public. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: data set CURRENTNESS REFERENCE: Ground Condition
