Abstract:
Foreign Winds Aloft is historical digital data set DSI-5200, archived at the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). This is a collection of miscellaneous, historical, upper air winds data. DSI-5200 contains wind speeds and directions at various levels above the earth's surface. Data is from a sampling of countries over the world. Data periods vary from station to station. The earliest data is from 1927, and the latest is from 1971. DSI-5200 includes the following historical data collections, with file names in double-quotes: 1. "african_middle_east_winds_aloft" 1953/01/01-1961/11/30 (Sudan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, and Afghanistan) 2. "african_winds_aloft" 1961/07/01-1963/06/30 (Africa [various countries], Syria, Israel, and Jordan) 3. "burma_haitian_winds_aloft" 1956/04/30-1957/07/01 (Burma and Port-au-Prince, Haiti) 4. "chinese_winds_aloft" 1956/08/20-1959/12/31 5. "india_pakistan_winds_aloft" 1953/12/31-1959/05/31 and "india_pakistan_winds aloft" 1954/01/01-1963/12/31 (India, Pakistan, and island of Borneo [Sarawak and north Borneo]) 6. "italian_pibals" 1927/04/01-1933/12/31 7. "japanese_winds_aloft" 1941/11/11-1953/12/31 8. "korean_winds_aloft" 1937/07/31-1957/12/31 9. "portuguese_macao_indian_winds_aloft" 1948/03/17-1948/12/02 (Portugal, Macao, India, Pakistan, Arabia, Burma, Ceylon [Sri Lanka], and Indian Ocean islands) 10. "se_asian_winds_aloft" 1959/09/16-1967/07/31 and "se_asian_winds_aloft" 1960/04/01-1967/07/29 (Southeast Asia and Pacific islands) 11. "winds_aloft" 1954/03/30-1960/08/17 (Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay) 12. "winds_aloft" 1949/03/01-1971/01/07 (Philippines)
