Summary
Abstract:
We evaluated how several management schemes change fuel conditions, vegetation,
and insect populations in three upland forest types across four sites (loblolly pine, mixed pine (2 sites), and a young longleaf pine plantation) that represent different stages in the restoration of longleaf pine habitat. JFSP May 2001 through August 2004 fuel data for all sites. Fuel data in seven fuel classes (live foliage; 1-hr, 10-hr, and 100-hr time-lag dead fuels; live stems less than 10 cm in diameter, post-burn needlecast over a 6 week period; and post-burn regrowth over a 6 week period) were collected to determine degree of fuel consumption in prescribed burns and the amount of fuel recovery between prescribed burns.

Quality
Due to sampling variation, the live fuels, 1-hr and 10-hr time-lag dead fuels
are the most accurate. Data collected by the same researchers each time, is consistent, and of good quality.
