Abstract:
In English: This dataset contains information on the project DYNAMICS OF HURD GLACIER, which is aimed at the measurement of the mass balance (accumulation and ablation) in Hurd and Johnsons glaciers, the determination of the ice velocity field in their surfaces, the maintenance of the skate network and the radio-echo sounding (georadar) profiling of the side lobes of Hurd Glacier. The measurements of mass balance and ice velocity will be used as input data to studies that relate the glacier dynamics with climate and to numerical models of the glacier response to changes in climatic parameters. The reliability of the numerical simulations strongly depend on the precision of the glacier geometry. The glacier geometry it defined by the surface topography and the subglacial relief. The latter is determined by means of radar profiles done on the glacier surface (radio-echo sounding. En Espanol: Esta ficha contiene informacion sobre el proyecto DINAMICA DEL GLACIAR HURD, cuyo objetivo se concreta en la realizacion de medidas de balance de masas (acumulacion y ablacion), en ambos glaciares (Hurd y Johnsons); la obtencion de las velocidades del hielo en sus superficies; el mantenimiento de sus redes de estacas; asi como la realizacion de perfiles de profundidad mediante radioecosondeo (georadar) y obtencion de datos topograficos, en los lobulos laterales del glaciar Hurd.Las medidas de balance de masas y de velocidad del hielo serviran para suministrar datos de entrada a los estudios que relacionan la dinamica glacial con la climatologia, y a las simulaciones numericas de la respuesta de los glaciares a las variaciones en los parametros climaticos. De la precision con la que se conozca la geometria actual del glaciar depende la fiabilidad de estas simulaciones. Para conocer esta geometria se necesita obtener su topografia superficial y el relieve subglaciar. Este ultimo se determina mediante perfiles de radar efectuados desde la superficie del glaciar (radioecosondeo). |
