Summary

Abstract:
The Quijote Pilot Project (Quickly Integrated Joint Observing Team) is a linking project, strengthening the capability of regional agencies, institutions and scientists in order to deploy an OPERATIONAL MONITORING SYSTEM in the South-Western Atlantic under the principles of the Coastal Module of the GOOS Project. These principles are based on the following operational categories: 1) Preserve Healthy Coastal Environments 2) Promote Sustainable Use of Coastal Resources 3) Mitigate Coastal Hazards 4) Safe and Efficient Marine Operations The actual QUIJOTE's projects will address all the above mentioned issues, at least partially. But the main philosophy beyond the initial formulation of QUIJOTE is that the project need to be an open project with a further follow-up directly related with new projects under that principles. On that sense, the Quijote could be also considered as a Pilot of a Regional Pilot Project, with a second, but not least important objective, of gathering new scientists, institutions, agencies and governmental projects with real potential for Coastal-GOOS monitoring.
