A tide gauge was installed on the fast ice on the eastern side of Cape Roberts and recorded continuously for fifty days (19 November, 1988 to 8 January, 1989) - first continuous tide record from the Antarctic continent in the Ross Sea sector. A further 13 days of record between 24 January and 5 February 1989 (when the ice foot broke out taking the transducer with it) was recorded to give 64 days ...

This was the initial installation of a tide gauge at Cape Roberts. Subsequent improvements have occurred and there is now a permanent station at this site.
