SCAR - GPS Plate Tectonic Survey
Entry ID:
ASAC_541
Summary
Abstract:
Permanent GPS base stations were established at Mawson, Davis, Casey and Macquarie Island (as well as other international sites in Antarctica) as part of the Geodetic Infrastructure in Antarctica (GIANT) Program of the SCAR Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information -
These permanent sites are used by International GPS Service (IGS) Analysis Centres and researchers to determine tectonic plate motions. Results from IGS Analysis Centres is published by IERS (International Earth Rotation Service) and included in ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame) determinations. Data from the base stations is readily available - on a daily basis - from the CDDIS Data Centre.
