South Pole Magnetometer Data
Entry ID:
SPA-MAG
Summary
Abstract:
Slow variations of the terrestrial magnetic field are measured with the fluxgate magnetometer (DC to the Nyquist frequency of 0.5 Hz, at 1-Hz sampling rate); the sensor itself comprises three small mutually perpendicular coils of wire. The fluxgate magnetometer can measure fluctuations as small as 0.03 nT, although magnetic storm effects often are associated with perturbations of 1000 nT or more.
