Water Patterns and Lake Boundaries of the European Community (from CORINE) from UNEP/GRID-GenevaEntry ID: GNV00161
Abstract: The Water Patterns and Lake Boundaries data set shows rivers and streams in the European Community (EC). The water patterns of all 12 EC member states have been included, while adjacent parts in non-member countries in northern and eastern Europe are also shown. The majority of the data have been digitized from 1:1 mil. ONC maps (Operational Navigation Charts) for the EC at the Institut fur ... Angewandte Geodasie (Germany), Birkbeck College (UK) and Huddersfield Polytechnic (UK). The data set consists purely of lines, nearly 40.000 in total, with no attribute data available yet. The Arc/Info line coverage provided to GRID by Eurostat has the Lambert Azimuthal projection, which is the EC standard projection. GRID has re-projected the coverage to fit the Latitude/Longitude coordinate system.
The resulting Water Patterns and Lake Boundaries data set, covering all 12 EC member states and neighbouring areas, contains 39.187 lines or arcs. In Arc/Info uncompressed 'EXPORT' format, the coverage comprises 37 Mb of data. The coverage is called WPEC1MLL; it can be imported into Arc/Info using the command IMPORT COVER WPEC1MLL.E00 WPEC1MLL.
The data set extends geographically from -14 0' 7" West to 29 59' 46" East Longitude and from 35 0' 32" to 62 28' 1" North Latitude.
