ABSTRACT: The DMSP is a Department of Defense (DoD) program which is responsible for designing, building, launching, and operating polar-orbiting environmental satellites. Data collected are from four instruments: Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I), Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSM/IS), Special Sensor Microwave Sounder (SSM/T), and the Special Sensor Microwave Water Vapor Profiler ...
 Purpose: PURPOSE: The DMSP satellites collect environmental data to monitor meteorological, oceanographic and space weather conditions in support of operational requirements of the Department of Defense, as well as other sectors of the government.
