Taxonomic validation for bird species on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service category 2 species list, brdsar0012
Entry ID: brdsar0012

[ Update this Record ]

Summary
Abstract: This report is in the form of four lists, separating the Category 2 species
into those that are (1) taxonomically valid as listed, (2) synonymous with
other taxa, (3) polytypic, and (4) impossible to evaluate without extensive
study.

Most of the taxa are valid as listed. There will be a few nomenclatural
changes in the near future but nothing that will relate to the validity of the
taxa. Taxonomic validity is based on acceptance by current taxonomic works
such as the AOU check-list, regional check-lists and books, and personal
knowledge.

Methodology:
This report is in the form of four lists, separating the Category 2 species
into those that are (1) taxonomically valid as listed, (2) synonymous with
other taxa, (3) polytypic, and (4) impossible to evaluate without extensive
study.

Purpose: To identify and correct various inaccuracies in the list of proposed taxa with
respect to nomenclature and the biological reality of the species included.
