Summary
Abstract: The Wave Propagation Laboratory (ETL) provides meteorological support for
boundary layer atmospheric and pollution studies. Lower Tropospheric Profiler
Data is a collection of data sets recording data gathered from various field
experiments, including experiments to support the following projects: Tropical
Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) / Coupled Ocean - Atmosphere Response Experiment
(COARE), San Joaquin Valley Air Quality Study, Northern California Transport
Study, Southern California Transport Study, Rural Oxident in a Southern
Environment (ROSE), Variability of Costal Atmospheric Refraction (VOCAR), Front
Range Air Quality Study (FRAQS), and Measurement of Haze and Visual Effects
(MOHAVE). For each experiment, a network of 8 to 10 wind profilers and 3 or 4
radio acoustic sounding systems (RASS) measure height resolved profiles of wind
and temperature. The wind profilers operate at a frequency of 915 MHz,
measuring winds with a resolution of 100 to 200 meters, from 100 meters above
ground to an altitude of (depending on conditions) 4 - 6 kilometers.
