Shuttle Radar Topography Mission DTED Level 1 (3-arc second) Data (DTED-1)
Entry ID:
DMA_DTED
Summary
Abstract:
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) successfully collected Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR) data over 80 percent of the landmass of the Earth between 60 degrees North and 56 degrees South latitudes in February 2000. The mission was co-sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). NASA's Jet ...
![]() Purpose: SRTM data is being used to generate a digital topographic map of the Earth's land surface with data points spaced every 1 arc second for the United States of latitude and longitude (approximately 30 meters).

Quality
The Absolute Horizontal Accuracy is 130m circular error at 90% probability and the Absolute Vertical Accuracy is +/- 30 m linear error at 90% probability. The quoted size of the cells (~3Mb) is smaller in northern latitudes.
Access Constraints
SRTM DTED Level 1 (3 arc second) data for global coverage is distributed by the National Center for Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) on DVD. SRTM DTED Level 2 (1 arc second) data for the United States and territotial slands is distributed by the National Center for Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) on DVD. The product is "Finished" data supplied by NGA.
Use Constraints
There is no guarantee of warranty concerning the accuracy of these data. Users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since the data was collected and that some parts of these data may no longer represent actual surface conditions. Users should not use these data for critical applications without a full awareness of their limitations. Acknowledgement of the originating agencies would be appreciated in products derived from these data. Any user who modifies the data set is obligated to describe the types of modifications they perform. User specifically agrees not to misrepresent the data set, nor to imply that changes made were approved or endorsed by the U.S. Geological Survey.
