Abstract:
Adapted from the National Geoscience Data Repository System The Alabama Geological Survey Well Information data set within the National Geoscience Data Repository System (NGDRS) contains a large amount of information on the various oil/gas/water wells throughout Alabama and the northeastern portion of the Gulf of Mexico. For each well an Alabama State Oil and Gas Board (ASOGB) permit number and location is given. Lists of the available well logs and core samples are also available. As the NGDRS web site states, the above data set is part of the larger effort to provide information that was obtained from a geological study of the Mississippi Interior Salt Basin, which is, in turn, part of the Department of Engergy's (DOE) Advanced Geologic Basin Analysis Program. According to the NGDRS web site, the data set was obtained from "http://www.agiweb.org/ngdrs/techfacts/dataproviders.html". Similar types of data may also be found at the Geological Survey of Alabama and the State of Alabama Oil and Gas Board web sites (please see the related URL information below). he NGDRS is maintained by the American Geological Institute (AGI) and is made possible through the joint sponsorship of the petroleum industry and the Department of Energy. The development of the NGDRS was inspired by the need to preserve the large volumes of geologic data that were collected by the petroleum industry and its associated agencies during the assessment and development of well sites. |
