Atlantic Hurricane Track Maps and Satellite Images from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
Entry ID:
JHU_APL_AVHRR_HURRICANE
Summary
Abstract:
At its Satellite Communications Facility, the Johns Hopkins University
Applied Physics Laboratory receives daily data from the AVHRR instrument onboard the NOAA polar orbiting satellites. The JHU/APL Ocean Remote Sensing Group rapidly processes images of hurricanes from the twice-daily passes of the NOAA-12 and NOAA-14 satellites. Single channel images and multi-channel composites are available for all hurricanes and tropical storms of the Atlantic hurricane season for each year starting in 1995. Track maps showing daily progression and strength classifications are available for each hurricane and tropical storm since 1995. From 1960 to 1994, track maps are available for selected hurricanes.
