Summary
Abstract: The overall objective is to develop sensitive environmental monitoring
programs that identify important impacts, the mechanisms of impact, and the
stressors responsible for the impacts. The long term research objectives are to
develop a better understanding of the influence of environmental factors on the
growth and reproduction of fish, the influence of life history characteristics
of fish on their sensitivity to stress, and how species differences in life
history characteristics can be utilized to design more cost-efficient,
sensitive monitoring programs.

Type: Estuary

Waterbody or Watershed Names: St. John Harbour - Estuary

Purpose: This study examines the seasonal variability and species composition
of the Saint John Harbour fish assemblage. By obtaining a better understanding
of the fishes that reside in the Harbour, we want to find an ideal sentinel
species that would give some direction towards the health of the inner Saint
John Harbour. This project has also developed a sampling protocol and examined
the spatial scale at ... View entire text
