Two-Level, Seasonal SOx/NOx Global Emissions Inventory Versions 1A and 1B, IGBP/IGAC/GEIA

The Canadian Global Emissions Interpretation Centre (CGEIC), in|
collaboration with the UN Global Emissions Inventory Activities working group
(GEIA), have completed emissions inventories on a 1? x 1? latitude/longitude
GEIA is an activity of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry
(IGAC) Core Project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP).
The focus of GEIA is to make global emissions available on a one degree grid.
CGEIC is a joint initiative of Environment Canada and ORTECH.
Details of the regional and national data sets used in the compilation
of this seasonal, two elevation level, global emissions data set are available
in Benkovitz, et. al (1996).
Version 1A gives gridded totals of annual sulphur and nitrogen
emissions. The Versions 1A and 1B were prepared in parallel using exactly the
same regional and global data sets. The global totals, obtained by collapsing
the two-level 1B inventory into a single total, differ only slightly due to
differences in merging national data sets.
For the 1B inventory, the extent to which the emissions for individual
countries could be resolved into high and low emission heights and seasons
varied between data sets. Low elevation level (less than 100m) emissions of
nitrogen and sulfur in tonne per year from mobile sources, non-mobile sources,
area source-minor points, and uncategorized anthropogenic sources are available
seasonally in 10027 records. The high elevation level (greater than 100m)
emissions of nitrogen and sulfur from power plants, smelters, and other major
point sources are available seasonally in 4531 records.
