Abstract:
This dataset includes mtDNA information for more than 200 southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) found at abandoned rookery sites along the Southern Victoria Land Coast (74-78 degrees south latitude, 162-166 degrees east longitude) of Antarctica. The data come primarily from moulted skin samples, although some come from mummified remains. The time range is from ~500-7000 years B.P.
