The Regional FIRE Product for Central Africa, 1993-1996, from JRC
Entry ID:
SAI_JRC_Cent_Afr_FIRE_Product
Summary
Abstract:
The mapping of active fires from NOAA-AVHRR data is an important
source of in- formation for a number of projects both within MTV and externally. The Central African region is an area undergoing rapid change [World Wildlife Fund, 1993]. Many of these changes, [e.g. deforestation, population increases, land cover changes] are accompanied by pyrogenic activity. The ... ![]() Geographic Coverage

Quality
The data were pre-processed to give five-band radiometrically
corrected, geometrically matched, ERDAS 7.5 raster images with pixel size of 0.01 degree resolution. Major corruptions in the data set, dropped lines - speckle, were removed where possible. The active fires were extracted from the remapped images using a contextual ... ![]()
Access Constraints
End-users external to GVM can have access to the data and make use of
it in their own field of research and/or application only if they fullfill the use- constraints listed below.
Use Constraints
When the data set is derived from results already published in
conferences or journals, the external user must agree with MTV on the correct form of refer- ence. If it is derived from results not yet published, the external user and GVM should agree on a co-author work. Ancillary Keywords
