Summary
Abstract:
Summary of opportunistic short-tailed albatross (Phoebastria
albatrus) observations during IPHC stock assessment cruises in Oregon, Washington, Gulf of Alaska, Aleutians, and Bering Sea. These are continuing surveys. Yearly updates are published on the web at: http://www.iphc.washington.edu/staff/tracee/shorttail.htm Purpose: To provide information on the seasonal and interannual distribution of the highly-endangered Short-tailed albatross population off the West Coast of North America. Because these data are recorded by trained observers, the taxonomic reliability of the identification is very high. Moreover, observations frequently include documentation in the form of video and / or photographs. The main limitation of this dataset is the opportunistic nature of the observations. As a result, only positive occurrences (sightings) are recorded.
