Quality From the referenced paper: 'Foods of the South Polar Skua...':

17 nest sites were involved in this study, but only 13 (numbers 2-14) were visited regularly, while skuas were present in the area, during the studies on breeding chronology and success. Two sites (16 and 17) were visited only once during the main study period (but were revisited in January 1991). Pairs at sites 1 and 15 disappeared after February 1989 (following the loss of eggs or young); site 1 was not reoccupied in the next season and only one adult was seen, briefly, early in 1989-1990 at site 15. Site 4 was first occupied in November 1989. Nest sites 5-9, 11 and 14 were each within an obviously defended feeding territory, whereas pairs at other sites apparently only defended the nesting area itself.
