X-ray observations of energetic electron precipitation from a long duration balloon (MAXIS) over Antarctica, January 2000
Entry ID:
MAXIS_2000
Summary
Abstract:
Data set contains X-ray observations from the MAXIS (MeV Auroral X-ray
Imaging and Spectroscopy) long duration balloon experiment. MAXIS was launched January 12 2000 and consists of a Germanium detector, two X-ray imagers and a BGO scintillator. The balloon circumnavigated the Antarctic continent in 18 days covering magnetic latitudes between 58-90 degrees south. The objective of the experiment was to search for MeV X-ray bursts caused by the precipitation of MeV electrons from the Earth's radiation belts. MAXIS is also sensitive to X-ray aurora.
