Abstract:
WorldSat International Inc., in conjunction with Metria Satellus, has completed a cloud-free satellite image mosaic of Europe (excluding Russia), at a resolution designed for work at scales of up to 1:500,000. This data set is based on Resurs satellite data with a resolution of 160 metres per pixel. The mosaic is based on a series of satellite images captured during a three-year period (1996-1998) from which cloud-free portions from some 200 images have been cut and mosaicked to produce a cloud-free mosaic over Europe. The image has been colour balanced to represent a summer season. This image mosaic of Europe complements, and can be used in conjunction with, Worldsat's existing cloud free global mosaic for applications up to 1:3,000,000. This data has been registered to 1:1,000,000 shoreline data and a 1:250,000 elevation model and is generally accurate to a scale of 1:500,000. Metria Satellus is one of the leading European suppliers of geographical and environmental information, and services from Earth remote sensing satellites. As part of Lantm?teriet (the National Land Survey of Sweden), it is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary, high-technology organization at the leading edge of the European geomatics industry.Imagery may be licensed in whole or in part for commercial use or in mapping applications.
